On July 8, we welcomed the Rev. Muriel Otto as our morning’s preacher. She is a United Church of Christ pastor serving a Lutheran church in Brookfield, Wisconsin. She is a Wisconsin transplant, who grew up in the San Juan Islands in Washington state. Raised by atheist lesbian moms and a Jew(ish) dad, Muriel didn’t step foot inside a church until she was 18. She was baptized and part of evangelical churches for several years before making her way to the United Church of Christ, a place where her family’s values and her faith values could finally be one and the same. This month marks the 12th anniversary of her baptism. She was joined by her her husband Andrew and their 8-month old daughter Alice.
