GREEN THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Do you want an opportunity to see God’s creation at a slower pace? Do you want to build more exercise into your daily life?
Consider if this opportunity speaks to you: You can choose to bike or walk to church this spring and summer! In addition to the health and enjoyment you’ll get from walking or biking, you can reduce your impact on our natural environment. Lots of our ORUCC companions already walk and bike to church – including some of our eldest members! Can we join them?
Believe it or not: there is a National Bike to Church Day. (See www.biketochurch.com.) It’s June 6, 2010 this year. But you don’t need to wait until June 6. You can start walking and biking to church now and enjoy it for many beautiful Sundays ahead.
GREEN ACTION IDEAS: (1) Talk to your family and ORUCC friends about walking or biking to church. If it doesn’t work for you, consider car pooling which also helps the planet and builds our faith-friendships. (2) Think about whether you have a friend or neighbor who likes to bike but isn’t in a church. Perhaps he or she might be interested in joining you for a Sunday ride and a visit to our wonderful church. (3) Keep your eyes open for the Green Team announcement about biking groups to be formed. (4) Start walking or biking more in general – for any errands where you might drive but don’t need to take your car. It’s fun, it’s great exercise, and it connects you to God’s time and place: here, and now.
