Work Site:
Organized through Kingdom Builders Construction (Mennonite Central Committee, East Coast).
We will help repair church buildings and houses of low-income families, and will be organizing games/activities for elementary children who come to a local food program (free breakfast and lunch) in a housing project in Northeast Philadelphia.
Accommodations:
We will stay at Oxford Circle Mennonite Church, 900 East Howell Street, Philadelphia. We will provide for our own meals and cook them at the church.
Who can come and how many:
We can have up to 30 volunteers (which includes chaperones) on this trip.
Anyone entering into 8th grade in the Fall of 2011 up to a 2011 High School Graduate can participate on this trip.
Schedule:
We will arrive in Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon, June 19. We will stop at Valley Forge National Park on our way into Philadelphia. Sunday evening we will attend a worship service.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will be our work days.
Wednesday we will tour a couple historic sites in Philadelphia and then head to Ocean City, New Jersey for a day of fun at the ocean and on the boardwalk.
Costs:
Approximate Cost per person=$500 which includes housing and food. Participants are responsible for their own meals on the way out and back to Philadelphia and for their day of fun at Ocean City, NJ. Each family is asked to pay $250 for each child of theirs that participates. In addition to scholarship money we receive from the Southwest UCC Association and some money we have currently in our youth mission trip budget, we will still need to raise approximately $5,000 for 30 volunteers to participate.
