Ken’s Pennings
At the annual meeting of ORUCC, which was held in January, we approved the new slate of leaders to serve on our Leadership Team and on the Five Ministries.* In the past, the pastors gathered together all of these leaders early in the year for a day of orientation, training and planning, and that was a valuable experience. But this year, we thought we’d try something new – gather each separate group of leaders in a home over a meal with a goal toward deepening relationships with one another. Continue Reading »

As kids, our Saturday night’s dinner choices tended to be potpies, corned beef hash, or a drive to the new fangled fast food restaurant, Burger King. With 8 of us kids, one of our rites of passage was being able to take the order for the whole family, without notes, and remember it while waiting in line. 4 burgers, 2 ham sandwiches, 3 whoppers, 2 chocolate shakes, 6 fries…you get the drill. It was midsummer in the mid-90’s, and I was leading a high school church camp in the mountains above Fresno. Over 35 teenagers spent the week at a rustic, no frills camp that had no electricity, while they slept in platform tents. It was an amazing week, the theme of which was “Living with No Fear.” We took hikes, sang and talked around campfires, played in mountain and lakes, ate hearty food, and renewed our baptism in the stream that ran through the camp. Looking Forward to…
LuAnn Greiner (one of the teachers of the 4th-7th grade Sunday School class) shared with me that the kids in her class were having a conversation about the mission trips the High School Youth take every year and how much they look forward to this opportunity when they get into High School.
