ORUCC partners with Haiti in two ways

Compassion Offering

Each month our Sunday cash offerings (change and bills) are designated to a worthy mission cause. Each month a different ministry is highlighted. This is a voluntary contribution. For credit on your church statement, on your check write the ministry in the memo line. While this will not count toward your annual pledge, we will acknowledge the contribution on your statement.

The January Compassion Offering will be Haiti Partners MCC and Earthquake Relief through the UCC

Since 2000, Haiti Partners has been in partnership with the people of Haiti. They have 4 primary programs :

  1. An Elementary School called Community School of Cite Soleil—200 young students from one of Haiti’s poorest communities, grades K-7, receive an excellent and free education as well as a daily hot meal.  Haiti Partners MCC is one of three organizations which help to support and develop this school.
  2. A Student Sponsorship Program called SPARE. SPARE stands for “Sponsorship Program Aiding Relationships and Education.” This program focuses on providing a comprehensive and respectful approach to student sponsorship. Most students in this program are in secondary school, and 8 are now in college!
  3. An Adult Literacy and Reforestation Project in Rural Haiti—they provide funding to support a peasant coop in the mountains outside of Port au Prince. This coop provides a literacy program for adults and also oversees a reforestation program in their community.
  4. Group Trips to Haiti: The next one is from Feb. 11-20, 2010, and there are still a couple of spots open!

In addition, we will be collecting funds for Earthquake relief through the United Church of Christ. The Wisconsin Conference and the national UCC have longstanding relationships with both aid organizations and aid workers.  Channeling our funds through these existing organizations will allow for the greatest chance of the necessary aid getting to areas of need in the most timely and effective way.  Funds collected will be sent in their entirety to Haiti.
