Dear members and friends of Orchard Ridge United Church of Christ,
Since January 2009, our Facilities Improvement Team (FIT)has worked with Strang, Inc. to develop conceptual ideas and drawings for ways we could improve and renovate our building. It was during our 2 year Next Generation Initiative Process that concerns arose about the way our current facilities are helping or hindering our program ministry. In addition, our Ministry of Resources was increasingly aware that some of our basic mechanical systems were either in need of repair or becoming less efficient. In September and October, the FIT held congregational discussions to share some exciting building plans, as well as obtain feedback and reaction. In the wake of those discussions, we, the Leadership Team are is proposing that we conduct a capital appeal campaign to undertake major renovations and improvements.
If the motion is approved, we would begin working immediately with Steve Havey of Havey and Associates to organize, plan and conduct a capital campaign.
• We estimate that the total cost of the church for this campaign would be between $58-63,000 ($48,000 for the consultant, $10-15,000 for campaign costs).
• The aforementioned campaign will present a three tiered campaign goal, with pledges and contributions being received over a 5-year period.
• We would expect to complete this campaign by late spring 2010.
• After the completion the campaign, our Leadership Team would recommend to the congregation a final building plan, and a potential mission gift. . This plan will be brought to the congregation for approval before proceeding.
This campaign represents the most ambitious campaign since the initial building of our facility. Our founders showed great faith and vision for the future when they committed to build a new church at Orchard Ridge about fifty years ago. We hope to honor our founders and honor our future by committing to the “next generation” of our ministry here at ORUCC. We ask the congregation to consider these proposals in a spirit of great hope and fervent prayer.
