In June, 2005, the High School youth of ORUCC went to Philadelphia to work with the New Jerusalem Now. While there, the High School group worked with members of local artists and NJN members to create the Peace Garden at the corner of W. Norris and 19th.
At this meeting, we reconsidered which food pantry ORUCC should support.Although we have donated food to the Allied Drive Food Pantry for many years, we became aware of the greater need for support of the pantry located in the new Lussier Center on Gammon Road next to Jefferson Middle School. Therefore, as soon as the sign on the grocery cart (near the parking lot entry) has been changed, food collected will be delivered to the Lussier food pantry.
We also designated the recipients of Compassion Offerings through June. They are as follows:
March—H2O (Hope to Others), which is building of a medical clinic in Tanzania
April–Family Connections, which provides transportation of children to visit their incarcerated mothers at Taycheedah and Burke
May—One Great Hour of Sharing
June—Youth Mission Trip, returning to Bay St. Louis
