Bratfest Thanks

Published by ORUCC under Children and Youth News

We did it! We filled 50 shifts at Bratfest this past weekend! Good work, everyone. Once the grease has settled, Sentry should be sending a check for about $1100 to go to support our trip. I know there were a few of you who got there and were not on the volunteer list. Don’t worry, I will let Sentry know of your shifts/hours. I’m sure they will honor your time.
I really appreciate your commitment to this event. It’s an easy way to earn money and can actually be a little bit of fun, too.

Thanks,

Tammy Martens

A prayer for Memorial Day (used in worship on 5/25/08)

Published by ORUCC under Blogroll

p201picas.JPGGod of all life, we celebrate your grace this Memorial Day weekend. We celebrate the lives of those loved ones who have died before us, people we have loved and who have loved us. In particular, we remember our loved ones that have perished in wars or armed conflict. We ask your blessing on their families who have learned to live without them, but who still miss their presence in their lives.

We give you thanks for people of faith and good will who strive to end all wars; working for peace and justice and freedom for themselves and others in all corners of our globe. May they know your strength in the struggle, your joy in the small victories of love casting out hate and fear, and your hope on those days when intolerance and bigotry consume too many hearts.

We pray for the victims of war and violence of all kinds, especially the children. In the midst of terror, relocation, confusion, and hunger – may they see and feel a glimmer of your abiding love and hope.

We pray for the victims of racism, poverty, and discrimination of all kinds. We pray for those of us who see this oppression but refuse to take responsibility. May we rise above the fear, the indifference, and the paralysis that prevent us from living out your gospel.

On this weekend of memories, may we remember your persistent call to your people to be a light for the world, a city set upon a hill, and a beacon of grace.

May the faith of loved ones, living in both this world and the next, lead us into right action – as your people in the world. Amen
