Eat Local
During the autumn of 2007, ORUCC launched its first “Eat Local, Eat Well” initiative to encourage members and friends to consider the economic and environmental impacts of how we eat. Summaries of some of our activities are listed below. Watch this page for information on our 2008 initiative as well.
Summary November 4th, 2007 Harvest Brunch
Over 110 ORUCC members and friends are feasted at our Fall Harvest Brunch; a mouth-watering celebration of Wisconsin’s bountiful harvest. The menu included a sampling of the best of Wisconsin’s produce, dairy and meats including ham, eggs, sausage, French toast, roasted root vegetables, sweet potato casserole, breads and an apple surprise!
Special guests included local farmers John & Dorothy Priske, familiar faces at the Dane County Farmers Market and proprietors of fountain Prairie Farms, who shared their perspectives on sustainable farming.
September 9 Forum
We had a wonderful turnout at the first Heart & Soul series entitled; Eating Local; Eating Well! Orchard Ridge’s Eating Local Challenge ran throughout the months of September and October. The pledge form, a handy resource guide and some “local” recipes are all available on this page. If you would like to be added to a group email list where we’ll swap ideas, tips and challenges, email LuAnn Greiner at lgreiner@uwhealth.org.
